Mobile Traffic Trend Report

AIMIA has released the 2nd Mobile Traffic Trend Report which can be downloaded directly.  The report covers Australian mobile traffic data across mobile internet sites from October 2008 to March 2009.

The key highlights of the report include:

  • Page views of Australian mobile internet sites in Australia grew 24.4% during the six month period
  • The six month period was made up vastly different quarterly results:  Q4 2008 showed very strong growth, buoyed by seasonal purchases of new devices; whereas Q1 2009 showed a slowdown in growth in January and February as a result of the global financial crisis and holiday period, followed by a bounce back in traffic during March
  • The iPhone continues to have a dramatic effect in increasing mobile website browsing in Australia
  • Strong mobile advertising growth was fuelled by brands in the automotive, alcohol and movie industries utilising mobile sites for campaigns

Personally, I think the play between social, search and mobile will be enormous.  Something that the most coordianted and careful approach will nail.  This will not be about gimmicks – this will be able function.
