Search engine marketing Tips
There are golden rules about how to launch effective search engine marketing activity. We share some of them with you.
- Design the architecture of your paid search campaigns properly before you start. It will save you a large headache down the track.
- It’s easier to design a search marketing campaign when you have your business’ goals planned. If you know what you need to achieve before you set out, it will become attainable.
- Work out how much budget you want to spend before you plan your search marketing campaign. A small budget will require a different search strategy than a larger budget.
- Decide whether you want to use search engine optimisation (SEO), pay per click (PPC) or a combination of both. With pay per click, you will see an increase in traffic to your site immediately, but you will need to continue to pay for it. Search engine optimisation takes longer to see results, but is less costly over the long term.
- SEO is not only about the content of your metatags. To achieve a good search engine rank, you need to look at issues that concern all aspects of your site.
- While using keywords on the page is important, overusing keywords can hurt your site’s ranking. It is best to have the keyword to normal text ratio at about 3-4%.
- While the number of links to your site is important, gaining links from low-quality or spam sites may harm your rankings. When trying to generate links to your site, aim for high-quality relevant links.
- If you need to move your site from one domain to another, it is best to use a 301-server redirection. This is the only way you can be sure that search engine spiders will find your new content and pass on the link popularity from your old domain.
- When writing ad creative for a paid search campaign, use capital letters on most words (excluding and, the, etc). It has been proven to increase the ad’s performance.
- Many people claim to be an “expert” in SEO. Before choosing an agency, meet with a few of them to make sure you will be working with a team that knows the business of search – and that offers an honest trade and pricing system.
